Our featured I Know Jo business of the week is Mountain Comfort Furnishings & Design/Taos.
This week I got to travel through the beauty of the Taos Canyon as I ventured over to El Prado to visit with our new Angel Fire Chamber member Bill Jarski, owner of Mountain Comfort Furnishings & Design of Taos. When I stepped into his store I was pleasantly surprised to find a vast selection of quality mountain elegant furniture, light fixtures, and other decorative accessories filling every nook and cranny of space within the 2-story showroom. Having been in the furniture business for over 25 years, Bill has built relationships with various manufacturers helping to give him an edge on savings and quality that he passes onto his customers.
I met with store manager and in-house designer, Kelly Geddes. She said what she would like people to know is that they carry items to cater to every pocket book from large to small scale. Their overall selection is well priced, U.S. made, top of the line products. They are equipped to handle a variety of full custom ordered designs, anything from unique copper bathrooms to the unusual boutique items. And not only do they work with the individual buying public, they also work with the local design community offering full installation. They will deliver anywhere in the world!
Mountain Comfort Furnishings & Design in Taos has New Mexico’s exclusive for the HGTV designer Candice Olsen’s furniture line. She offers over 800 fabrics from which you may choose, allowing a personalized product with a lifetime warranty. Their newest addition is a leather furniture store located next door to the main showroom. A couple from Angel Fire was shopping during the time of my interview, so we all walked over. The smell of the leather as Kelly opened the door was incredible, and the leather furniture large and inviting. To round out their business they also own Taos Mattress with its superb quality bedding which includes the Simmons Beauty Rest line at non-advertised low pricing.
Bill and his wife, Heather, opened their Mountain Comforts store in Taos about 7 years ago. They are a family run operation established in 1986 with franchise showrooms also located in Frisco, Co., Kremmling, Co., Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Couer d’Alene, Idaho. Heather runs the franchise headquarters out of the Frisco location with Bill traveling between Taos and Frisco.
