Resort employee / Monte Verde Lake attendant Doug Adamski.
Monte Verde Lake, a wonderful summer amenity of the Angel Fire Resort in Angel Fire, New Mexico, is now OPEN and well stocked with rainbow trout!
The longer I live in Angel Fire, the more I realize how blessed I am. How many people live in a place like this? Our little village is nestled at the base of a ski mountain that transforms into a premier mountain bike park in the summer, sharing the mountain’s summit with a high altitude disc golf course, and the first-and-only zip line in New Mexico. The resort also owns and operates a gorgeous 18-hole golf course and country club with majestic views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and Monte Verde Lake. Plus – all of these are within walking distance of one another! It doesn’t get much better than this.
Monte Verde Lake is open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm until June 1, then the hours will be 7:00 am to 8:00 pm until the lake closes in the fall. The lake is located on Hwy 434 a little south of the Angel Fire Resort Golf Course. Daily permits are required for the activities on the lake. After signing in at the dock house, resort members fish free and non-members pay a small fee. There is a four-fish limit with a catch-and-keep rule. My grandson caught his first fish in Monte Verde Lake a few years ago. (I added the photo below because it’s such a good memory!)
Lake rentals include paddle boats, row boats, trolling motors, and fishing poles. And boat storage is available for the entire season.
This year Scott Lawrence, who oversees the lake, will be holding Fly Fishing Clinics every Saturday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm beginning June 2 and ending September 20. These clinics will be free to resort members; guests will pay a $10.00 fee.
When I was at the lake talking to Doug, we watched a family of ducks waddling around the banks and got excited when the trout began jumping! I decided I should go to Monte Verde this evening after work and catch my dinner. I love fresh trout! Join me!
