We are pleased and excited to sponsor a Holiday Lighting Contest. The Angel Fire Proud Beautification Committee has done an excellent job to insure the streets of Angel Fire will be lit-up and festive during the 2013-2014 holiday season. They have asked we all participate by decorating our businesses and homes. As an added inspiration the Board of Director’s at the Chamber decided to give you an incentive.
Who doesn’t like a friendly competition? The Holiday Lighting Contest will offer two categories in which you may enter. A business category and a residential category. Within these two categories, three trophies will be awarded; 1st Place, 2nd Place and People’s Choice. The entry fees are, $25.00 in the business category and $10.00 in the residential category. Start now to plan your winning design! The deadline for entry is set for Friday November 22, 2013. The entries will then be routed onto a map the Chamber will put together in a special holiday handout. These map handouts will be ready for distribution at the Angel Fire Village Tree Lighting Ceremony, Thursday December 5, 2013. Judging of the contestant’s entries will take place between Thursday December 6 and Thursday December 12, 2013. Distinguished judges from several Enchanted Circle communities will choose the 1st and 2nd place winners. You will choose the People’s Choice winner! Everyone is invited to be the judge of the People’s Choice in both categories. The map handout will have a ballot for you to fill out. You will be asked to travel all over the Angel Fire area enjoying the beautiful decorations and then cast your vote for the ones you like the best. Make it a traditional family outing! You may then bring your ballots to the Angel Fire Chamber or send them electronically (once we have the glitches figured out!) One ballot per person is eligible for the vote.
The winner’s will be announced at the Angel Fire Chamber of Commerce Christmas party on Saturday December 14, 2013. We invite everyone to get involved! Whether you are in Angel Fire, Black Lake, Taos Pines, a permanent or part time resident enter your business, enter your home, enter your organization (the elk on Angel Fire Road would look great as Rudolph, don’t you think Angel Fire Garden Club?) Once again the deadline for entry is November 22 and judging begins December 5. Get prepared, enter the contest and Light-Up for the holidays!
We are also in the preparation stages for the “Habla Tamale” event we are hosting June 28-29, 2014. Speak Tamale! The entire community is being asked to pitch in and be part of this event.Committees are forming now and will begin meeting in early October. Please consider helping out with this ground floor event. You may call or come by the Chamber to volunteer. We need your expertise! It is going to take a lot of planning and preparation to host a successful event. Hopefully it will be on the state calendar for years to come bringing many tourists to Angel Fire. Do you make the best tamales in the state of New Mexico? You will now have a venue to prove it! We want you to enter the tamale cook-off. Has your family been making tamales for generations? Maybe you should sign up to demonstrate your awesome techniques. There will be something for everyone at this event. Food booths, music stages, kid zones, arts and craft booths and much more. But most of some lucky skilled someone will earn the bragging rights to wear the badge of honor as winner of “Habla Tamale.” Proof that your tamales really are the best!
Also if you haven’t noticed, the leaves are changing all over the valley and in the canyons. So if you are not in Angel Fire now, you should be! Fall has definitely arrived and we have the beauty to prove it!
