Last year at this time we were preparing for the first annual Holiday Lighting Contest sponsored by the Angel Fire Chamber of Commerce and the Village Angel Fire Proud Committee. They have done an excellent job to insure the streets and businesses of Angel Fire are lit-up and festive during our holiday season. Once again we are asking everyone to participate by decorating your homes and businesses. The way we are situated in the Moreno Valley, our village is transformed into an amazing “snow globe” scene with the glistening snow and mountains as the backdrop. Not only are our guests pleased, but those of us who call this valley our home, enjoy the holiday spirit!
The Chamber again wants to add a little incentive. Who doesn’t like a friendly competition? The Holiday Lighting Contest offers two categories in which you may enter. The business category and the residential category. Within these two categories, three trophies will be awarded 1st Place, 2nd Place and People’s Choice. The cost to enter this contest is $25.00 for the business category and $10.00 for the residential category. Start now to plan your winning design. The deadline for entries is set for Friday November 21, 2014 but you don’t have to have your decorations up until Tuesday, December 2, 2014. Judging that will take place between Wednesday, December 3rd and Monday, December 8, 2014.
The location of all entries will be placed onto a map. These map handouts will be ready for distribution at the Angel Fire Chamber office on December 3rd. Judges will be randomly chosen from around the Enchanted Circle communities. EVERYONE is invited to judge the People’s Choice in both categories. For judging, the map handout will have a ballot for you to fill out. You will be asked to travel all over the Angel Fire area enjoying the beautiful decorations and then cast your vote for the ones you like the best. Make it a traditional family outing! Then bring your ballots to the Angel Fire Chamber or send them electronically to manager@angelfirechamber.org. One ballot per person/family is eligible for the vote.
The winner’s will be announced at the Angel Fire Chamber of Commerce Business after Hours on Tuesday, December 9, 2014, to be held at the Sunset Grille. We invite everyone to get involved! Whether you are in Angel Fire, Black Lake, Taos Pines, a permanent or part time resident enter your home, enter your business, or even enter your organization (this would be considered a business). Once again the deadline for entry is Friday, November 21, 2014, judging begins Wednesday, December 3, 2014. Be prepared, enter the contest and Light-Up for the holidays!
We are also really excited about the new events coming to Angel Fire and those coming back to Angel Fire. The first annual Oktoberfest was a fun and different event that promises to get bigger and better every year. In February, be prepared to get involved with the four day Angel Fire Winter Carnival. Snow sculpture contests, shovel races, music venues, dummy races, and a snowman garden are just a few of the activities planned. Start now planning your float for the Mardi Gras Parade. Watch our calendars for all of the continuing annual events, plus be sure to get involved with the new events scheduled for next year. A few are: Memorial Day week-end we are holding a Chuck Wagon Cook-off, Father’s Day week-end, Balloons Over Angel Fire will once again grace our skies and the first week-end of August, be prepared for the first annual tamale cook-off, Habla Tamale. The entire community is being asked to pitch in and be part of these events. Please consider helping out. We need your expertise! It is going to take a lot of planning and preparation for these events to be successful. Volunteer, volunteer, volunteer! There will be something for everyone at all of these events. Food booths, music stages, kid zones, arts and craft booths and much more. But most of all coming together as a community to boost the economy of Angel Fire and the Moreno Valley and have lots of fun! For more information or questions about how you can volunteer, call Jo at 575-377-6353.
Also if you haven’t noticed, the leaves are changing all over the valley and in the canyons. If you are not in Angel Fire now, you should be! Fall is definitely arrived and we have the beauty to prove it!
