It’s that time of year! The requirements for gas logs in a fireplace are that they be installed in a working wood burning fire place. These photos illustrate our reconstruction of a Southwestern style “kiva” fireplace made of adobe. The first picture is the adobe firebox with wire lath securely fixed into the adobe. The second photo is looking up into the smoke chamber-the area above the firebox- where the new stainless steel liner terminates and transitions into the top of the firebox. The final photo is of the completed restoration, the wire lathed adobe plastered with a special mix of a long lasting insulating compound, Chamber Tech 2000, and Structolite, and Hargrove “Kiva” style gas logs assembled and working. – October 2014.
