Angel Fire may be small and quaint, but we are big and mighty behind the scenes. Our efforts, events, and activities would not happen without the many various committees of volunteers who work tirelessly. Today I’d like to spotlight the Village of Angel Fire, Angel Fire Proud Committee. This committee works to inspire members of the community to clean-up and take pride in their properties. Chair of this committee, Lysa Hopson said, “We are a group of residents who are searching for ways to make Angel Fire more beautiful and inviting.” Not only do they now sponsor our annual spring and fall clean-ups, they are the committee responsible for raising money to bring the new Christmas lighting on Hwy 434 and North Angel Fire Road and they were the inspiration behind lighting of the big Christmas tree last year. This summer they are once again sponsoring the Angel Fire Blooms contest. It will kick-off at the AAFPO Taste of Angel Fire event on June 6, 2015. There will be three categories: Business, Civic/Non Profit Organizations, and Residential. Within these three categories are two levels: Potted Containers and Gardens. Judging and awards for this free contest will take place in early August with a desert reception. Angel Fire Proud is taking on the responsibility of the village buildings and the recycle center. Their concept will be to bring in more native drought sustaining plants, to work with the environment and help preserve our bird population and air quality. And they are teaming up with the Garden Club of Angel Fire to help maintain the village median. They welcome assistance from local businesses. Taking pride in your own area is a year round commitment. So please take a minute to survey your property, whether business or residential and become a part of the efforts to clean-up Angel Fire. Make changes that will make your property inviting and as beautiful as the surrounding natural beauty of the Moreno Valley. If you see trash, pick it up. It does take a village (pun intended) to keep our little piece of heaven beautiful.

The Angel Fire Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the New Mexico Chamber Executives Association here in Angel Fire this week. Approximately twenty-five Chamber Executives from all over New Mexico, many of whom have never been to Angel Fire, will be spending several days with us. Most of their time will be spent in workshops and conference, but we will also showcase Angel Fire with side trips to our places of interest. Our goal is to give them the desire to come back!
Also the Chamber’s Annual Membership Meeting/Dinner is set to take place on Monday June 15, 2015 at H2 Uptown. And we are pleased to let you know that the Village Sustainability Committee has changed the date for the Spare Part Art Auction from June 13, 2015 to September 5, 2015. It will still be held in the shopping center area behind Mountain Sports from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The date change will allow time, for everyone who is reading this article, to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece to enter into the auction. What are the rules? There is only one. It is that your artwork must be made of used or re-cycled material. Large or small, enter it all! You don’t have to be an artist by trade to enter. All proceeds will be divided between the Village Sustainability Committee, the Angel Fire Chamber of Commerce, and the Moreno Valley Arts Council’s “Art Center” fund raising campaign.
