Last Saturday, November 28, the Chamber ran its first ever Shop Local Saturday Scavenger Hunt in Angel Fire. Fifteen local businesses participated. The rules were very simple, but the clues were not. Five people played the game and the youngest contestant, Hannah Johnson, with her Grandmother Shelley Larson as navigator, was the Grand Prize Winner! Together they successfully deciphered all fifteen directional clues, getting them to the correct businesses, completed the tasks once they arrived and made it back to the Chamber before the other contestants. They even brought in the correct answer to the bonus clue, finding a tiny birdhouse on the outside of Zebs.
“I just spent one of the most wonderful days of my life with my granddaughter Hannah on a treasure hunt through town looking for nothing more than the next adventure…. Life is soooo good in Angel Fire, New Mexico…. And she won every event category … even the bonus tiny house (the bird house) at Zebs… Unfortunately I did not get pictures at Mountain Sports of Angel Fire, Expresso Cafe, or The Candy Store in Angel Fire.” said Shelley Larson after the hunt was over.
Linda Ford said, “This was so nice for me, it caused me to get out in town and meet people I didn’t know and I found some great bargains. It was really fun!”
We are continuing the Shop Local Shop Small Contest that we ran last December to encourage everyone to shop local. Anytime you spend at least $50.00 (on each receipt) at a local business, whether they are Angel Fire Chamber members or not, bring your receipt(s) into the Chamber to be eligible for a cash drawing on December 31 at 11:00 am. This includes dinner, gas, merchandise, etc. etc. etc. Plus, due to time constraints and hard clues, we chose to run the scavenger hunt with only businesses inside the village limits, so to be fair to our outer members, if you shop at any of our rural Angel Fire Chamber member locations or those Angel Fire Chamber members in other towns you get a bonus point. Ready set….SHOP LOCAL!
Congratulations again to Hannah! Good job. And thank you to all the businesses who participated in our scavenger hunt! Thanks to Mountain Sports and Zebs for donating prizes….all of them went to Hannah!
