Opening weekend is just around the corner and we can’t wait to welcome returning Festival lovers and first-timers. Do you have your tickets yet? You can get them online at www.musicfromangelfire.org or by calling our Box Office at 575-377-3233 extension 1000.
Opening night kicks off with an opening act, the free Cool Summer Nights Concert Series at Frontier Park, Angel Fire on Friday, August 19 at 5:00 pm. Musical guests include The Brass Project, a student ensemble from the famed Curtis Institute. Many of you heard the tremendous talent of The Brass Project earlier this spring when the musicians were in Angel Fire as part of the MFAF School Residency Program. So pack a picnic basket and a lawn chair and listen to the sounds of one of MFAF’s Young Artist ensembles. A fantastic opening act for the Festival!
Opening night continues with Trios Two Ways on Friday, August 19 at 7:00 pm at the Angel Fire Community Center featuring the music of Milhaud and Dvořák and showcasing violinists Ida and Ani Kavafian, and violist Steven Tenenbom. Time for Three completes the evening with their fresh, exciting and diverse music.
On Saturday, August 20, the Festival continues with Celebrating a Revolution at 7:00 pm at the Taos Center for the Arts featuring works by Shostakovich and world-acclaimed soprano Tony Arnold. Trio Saint Bernard performs the Trio No. 1 for Piano and Strings, and Ms. Arnold joins violinist Stephen Tavani, cellist Zachary Mowitz, and pianist Sam Hong for the Seven Romances on Poems of Alexander Blok. Time for Three joins the stage to add their ground-breaking and genre-defying performance.
The weekend festivities wrap up with Sunday evening’s, August 21, Musical Conversations I: Baroque Chamber Concerti; the first of a three-part series hosted by Ida Kavafian and Jonathan Coopersmith. Held at 7:00 pm at the United Church of Angel Fire, the evening explores the sacred, secular, vocal and instrumental works of the Baroque Era.
