MUSIC FROM ANGEL FIRE – CALL TO ARTISTS

OVERVIEW AND ANNOUNCEMENT
On January 14, 2017 Music from Angel Fire launches its third annual juried art competition. One artist will be selected and the winning work will be featured on the cover of the Summer Festival program book, a publication distributed at all festival concerts, August 18-September 2. The work may also be used for an annual MFAF poster if that is re-instated. The competition alternates each year between artists residing in Colfax and Taos counties. In 2017, entries may be submitted by part or full time residents of Colfax county and will be judged by a panel of jurors. The submitted work must have been completed in the last two years and artists are invited to submit artwork created in 2D or 3D, including, but not limited to, painting, photography, pottery, and sculpture. The winning artist will have the opportunity to display and sell their work at the Angel Fire Community Center throughout the festival. Application fee is $20 per medium. ELIGIBILITY
The 2017 Music from Angel Fire Art Competition is open to any artist (at least 18 years of age) who is a part or full time resident of Colfax county. All applicants will be asked to provide a Colfax county address, as well as the number of months per year the artist spends in the county. Winner may be asked to submit documentation to provide proof of residency. All submitted entries should be original works of art completed in the last 2 years and must be for sale. Artists who have been a featured MFAF artist in the last 5 years are not eligible to submit.
Up to 3 submissions per medium.
SUBMISSION AND DEADLINE
Beginning January 14, applicants may apply at www.youjudgeit.org/mfaf. Up to 3 entries per medium per artist. To complete the application process, you will need to provide the following:
– Contact information
– Brief artist bio and statement (300 words or less)
– Brief statement about the work (100 words or less)
– Image of the original work
– Credit card information for the $20 entry fee
You may log into your application and make modifications as many times as needed. When you are ready to submit your application, you will be directed to pay the entry fee and press the “submit” button.
ENTRY FEE
The nonrefundable entry fee is $20 per medium (up to 3 images).
AWARD
The winning artist will be notified by April 10th. Artwork will be featured on the cover of the Summer Festival program book, may be used for the poster image (if the poster is reinstated). It will also be featured on the MFAF website and other print materials. The winning artist will be acknowledged from the stage and receive an invitation to the opening night post-concert reception. The artist will receive 2 complimentary tickets to the festival opening nights in Angel Fire and Taos. The winning artist will have the opportunity to display and sell their work throughout the festival at the Angel Fire community Center and the artist retains 100% of the proceeds of all pieces sold, with the exception of the winning work. The winning piece will be on display and available for bidding at each festival concert and will be sold to the highest bidder. MFAF will retain 40% of the proceeds for the winning piece.
IMAGE
The image of the original work should be square or vertical and should be able to be proportionally reduced or enlarged to fit on an 8.5 by 11 cover. Horizontal images may be considered but, if one is chosen as the winning piece, it will require artist’s approval of cropping the image.
Each applicant may submit up to 3 images.
Each image must be in JPEG (.jpg) format, at a minimum resolution of 150 DPI, a maximum height of 11 inches and a maximum file size of 2 MB. It should not include text info or borders that are not part of the work. Filename should be “Piece name, Year of completion” (e.g. Snowy Sunset, 2013).
If selected, the artist will need to provide a high resolution image (600 DPI) of the piece as well as a headshot and bio.
CALL AGREEMENT
By submitting the online application to the Music from Angel Fire Art Competition, Artist agrees that the digital image submitted for jurying is original work. If Artist’s artwork is chosen as the winning image, Artist agrees to allow MFAF to publish it on the 2017 Summer Festival program cover, the festival website, a possible festival poster, and other advertising materials, and does not expect any compensation. Artist understand that if their artwork is chosen as the wining image, Artist will be asked to sign an agreement acknowledging understanding and acceptance of these terms.
