A thank you to the Angel Fire Community from the United Church of Angel Fire, by Roz Garland.
The UCAF Christmas Eve Offering touched the hearts (and tummies) of many! On Tuesday, January 10th, a check in the amount of $2650 was presented to the Interact Club, a Rotary club for High Schoolers, of Moreno Valley High School to help stock their “Secret Pantry”. Their gratitude (and your generosity) was overwhelming!
The project is best described in the words of the Club president, Eloragh Espie: “The food pantry started in September as a tiny idea to develop a food program that would service a need at MVHS. Our school doesn’t have a lunch program which left many of the students and staff without any reliable, consistent, and stable food source.
The food pantry was developed to fill that gap in the education system at MVHS and make sure that all students and staff had the means to achieving the best possible academic achievements. What it boils down to is that food is necessary for focus and for expanding the mind so, without that resource, students were lacking in many classes simply because they couldn’t pay attention.
We knew that we needed to implement this program far in advance of PARCC Testing, the SAT and ACT, and AP Testing so that our students could continue to strive for the best. We are so incredibly grateful to the United Church of Angel Fire for its generous donation. The food pantry will now have more than enough funds to keep it fully stocked all throughout the end of this year and next year. Thank you again from Moreno Valley High School.”
