January 22, 2019
Together the Village of Angel Fire and the Angel Fire Chamber of Commerce and the International Bank/ Angel Fire are sponsoring Angel Fire Day at Legislation 2019.
Please join us!
Come January there will be many changes in the round house. A new governor will take office. Most, if not all of the appointed Secretaries of State will change. New Mexico Governor-elect Michelle Lujan Grisham, has selected a panel of experts for the transition teams to help her identify potential cabinet leaders and to make recommendations as she prepares to take office. She has said that the effort will be bipartisan, with the goal of setting the state on a new path and leveraging every possible opportunity. Lujan Grisham will follow Republican Gov. Susana Martinez, whose second consecutive term will be completed at the end of this year. She will inherit a significant budget surplus and many potential projects to fund, both those sought by legislators and by the governor. Matthew Reichbach wrote December 5, 2018 in the New Mexico Political Report about the change of office in 2003, “When Democrat Bill Richardson replaced Republican Gary Johnson, “it was like a dam burst,” former State Sen. Dede Feldman said, speaking of the laws enacted. In the 2003 session alone, 439 bills became law, compared to 110 the year before.”
So what will Angel Fire Day include and how can you participate?
1. We have asked permission to be put on the legislative social calendar for January 22, 2019. This gives us the privilege to be announced at the round house and the day be declared Angel Fire Day.
2. We will hold a small Angel Fire Day Reception January 22, 2019 at the Drury Inn Santa Fe Plaza from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. It will include heavy Hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar and live music provided by Marcus Bowers. Tickets are $50.00 per person and will be available for purchase at the Angel Fire Chamber of Commerce January 2, 2019.
For those who are interested, we have blocked rooms at the Drury Inn of Santa Fe (in the Plaza area of Santa Fe) for Jan. 21 and Jan 22. (For more information please email manager@angelfirechamber.org and I will email you the info. including room rates, etc. You may reserve both nights or just the night of the reception). The deadline on our block of rooms to get a discounted rate is January 4, 2019. Also, if you would like to sponsor and help fund the legislators who do attend, please email me. We are also asking for people to help us hand deliver invitations to each individual legislator, on the morning of January 22, 2019, anticipating some of them will want to attend.
3. We will mail out invitations to the Governor and all of the legislators (Senate, House and Cabinet), inviting them to attend the Angel Fire Day Reception the evening of January 22, 2019.
For those attending from Angel Fire, you will be able to address, at the reception, one on one, the legislators who attend and discuss key issues, bills and areas of focus we want and need in Angel Fire. It would be nice to take so many of our concerned residents, people will notice that Angel Fire is in the house! This is how we start.
We believe it will be an exciting session and now is the perfect time to re-instate an Angel Fire Day at legislation.
We have a voice, let’s learn to use it!
