At the Angel Fire Village Council meeting Tuesday, June 25, 2019, Mayor Barbara Cottam announced she was resigning her position as Mayor of Angel Fire, effective Friday June 28, 2019. She was then presented with a plaque from Mayor Pro-Tem Chuck Howe and Village Clerk, Terry Cordova. She gave no public reason as to why she had made this decision.
In order to fill the vacant position, there was an emergency council meeting called for Friday June 28, 2019 at 10:00 am. Village Council members Chuck Howe, Rogers Lanon, Steve Larson, and Bill Humbert were charged with the task of nominating a candidate to fill the position as interim Mayor until the upcoming election in November. They nominated and elected Mayor Pro-Tem Chuck Howe who then took the oath of office to become interim Mayor. Rogers Lanon was then nominated and approved as Mayor Pro-Tem.
The next step will be to seat a candidate to serve as Councilor until the election in November 2019. The appointment will be made at the next Village Council meeting on Tuesday, July 9, 2019.
