Information for employers whose business and employees have been affected as a result of COVID-19.
Effective March 19, 2020, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and the New Mexico Department of Health have put into effect an amended public heath order that prohibits all mass gatherings, the closure of shopping malls, flea markets, movie theaters. Restaurants, bars, breweries, eateries and other food establishments that will be limited to takeout service and home delivery only.
President Trump signed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act into law Wednesday night which expands access to emergency paid sick leave to workers. Qualifications for eligibility are employees that work at a company with fewer than 500 employees; local, state, and federal government employees; employees who work under a multi-employer collective agreement and whose employers pay into a multi employer plan.
The act provides sick leave for full and part time employees. Employers will initially pay the cost of the emergency paid sick leave but will be fully reimbursed by the federal government within three months. Emergency Paid Family Leave Fact Sheet.
