Dear Friends of Music From Angle Fire:
As much as you love music, you will understand it is difficult to announce that Music From Angel Fire is cancelling the 2020 Season. Although preparations for the 2020 Festival began last September, all the work and planning have fallen to COVID-19. The focus must be on the safety and well-being of the audiences and friends, musicians, staff, and residents of the many communities that host performances by Music From Angel Fire. Everyone associated with Music From Angel Fire is saddened to think of a summer without music, not just in northern New Mexico, but in communities throughout the world.
The decision to cancel the 2020 Festival was not easy. Throughout the spring, everyone looked at how there might be a reduced festival. But finally, as we came to understand the importance of social distancing, there is no other option.
As COVID-19 has filled the news, Music From Angel Fire collaborated with a composer to create a new and exciting work for you. The festival finds the best symphony and solo musicians to partner with young artists from the finest colleges and conservatories. As the musicians polish their parts, venues are rented, marketing plans are made to sell tickets, and brochures and programs are created.
Just as the musicians are impacted by cancelling the 2020 season, so too are the people who work behind the scenes. Most of these people face uncertain times—as do the communities in northern New Mexico who so generously supported Music From Angel Fire through the years.
As people and organizations struggle with the impact of COVID-19, it seems the best response for Music From Angel Fire is to prepare for the 2021 Season. But that can only happen with your help. This year there are no advertising dollars and ticket sales to support the organization. Will you help address the critical issue of the future for Music From Angel Fire?
If you have already donated to the 2020 Festival, thank you so much. You’ve helped cover the expenses incurred for preparation of a season of music as you’ve encouraged careful study of the situation that led to this decision. If you have not made your 2020 donation, please make a gift today as many of the expenses of Music From Angel Fire continue throughout the year.
To everyone, I would also ask you to make a special gift today to provide partial payment to the festival musicians. Although these are challenging times for all, many musicians are only paid when they perform. Music From Angel Fire musicians won’t be in New Mexico. They won’t be on a stage. But together we can keep them playing! Every gift you make this year will be recognized in the 2021 Festival program.
Music will return to northern New Mexico, and Music From Angel Fire will lead the way in 2021. As this letter heads to you, Music From Angel Fire is dedicated to continue sharing world-class music, wonderful friendships, and the performances that you have applauded so generously for 36 seasons.
With heartfelt thoughts Tara and Danny have created this special piece for you to enjoy as everyone goes through these very difficult times.
With Deep Gratitude,
James Brown, President
