Balloonists Around the World to Unite in a project called “Lifting Spirits Around the World”
Every year for the past 48 years on the first weekend of October, hot air balloonists from around the world have been coming together in New Mexico to create “the world’s most photographed event” at Balloon Fiesta. Due to the pandemic, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta was cancelled and the New Mexico Governor’s health orders still say no more than 10 people may gather together in one place.
To say it’s been a difficult and disappointing year is an understatement, especially to balloonists who are used to uplifting spirits on a daily basis around the world. And now with the postponement of Balloon Fiesta, they were all wondering what to do that first week in October when they are used to spending nine great days with friends in the hot- air fellowship in Albuquerque.
Even though they can’t meet together this year, they can however, fly together throughout the world the first weekend in October.
* What: Coordinated launch of hot air balloons in their own City, State, and Country
* When: October 3 & October 4, 2020
* Why: “We rise to lift spirits” to honor those who have sacrificed and suffered
* Who: Hot air pilots across the world flying in your own backyard, in your own hometown, and in our own country
They will follow their local city, state, country ordinances regarding COVID-19 Mass Gatherings limits and Social Distancing.
Below is a map of the state’s balloonist will be lifting off for the World’s Greatest Mass Ascension Ever!
