Covid-19 Vaccine
When the Covid-19 Virus was officially recognized in February of 2020, the leadership of the Village of Angel Fire held a round-table discussion and began planning on the potential impact of this Novel Virus. Following the Disaster Planning Model of Preparedness, Response, Mitigation, and Recovery we identified Stages of Surveillance, Response Actions, Response to the Community, Continuity of Government, and Recovery. We have seen an official total of 52 cases of Covid-19 in our Community since the virus first appeared and an unofficial total of about 80 cases (including out of town visitors, residents of surrounding communities treated/transported by AFFD, and some who were mildly ill but chose not to be tested). We have worked very closely with our Community Health Clinic, our Local and County Emergency Management, and with several branches of the NM Dept. of Health to be prepared for the first and second wave of this Virus.
When the Covid-19 Vaccine received emergency use authorization, we had already prepared a list of personnel who chose to receive the vaccine and were ready for the Phase 1A distribution. EMT’s are required to have several different types of vaccinations to perform their jobs, but we decided not to make this one mandatory. For obvious reasons, the Covid-19 Vaccine is a personal choice. To date, all but three of our EMT’s have received the initial dose of the vaccine with no acute or adverse reactions. Two of our EMT’s will receive the Vaccine from the next shipment and one has chosen to abstain. In addition, we were able to include some of the first responders/ EMT’s from Angel Fire Resort Ski Patrol in the Phase 1A distribution.
Finally, we continue to work closely with County and State officials during the Pandemic and we have registered to become a POD (point of distribution) for the Vaccine when it becomes available to the Public. Information will be distributed widely when this occurs. For up to date information on Covid-19 in Colfax County and Angel Fire. Please follow the Angel Fire Fire Department Facebook page.
