I am extremely pleased to announce our efforts in working with state officials last week have been heard and addressed properly!
Colfax County has been moved back into the Turquoise level of the state’s Color coded system. We are very appreciative they made the change today at 8:00 am instead of waiting until May 5th. This gives our businesses the ability to open for the weekend!
We are also pleased that the Governor decided to change the criteria to include vaccine percentages. There had been discussion about this for weeks, but a roll out date had not been given. We appreciate Dr. Scrase and Secretary Collins for fast tracking the changes.
Thank you to all those who joined us in writing letters and making phone calls. (Please follow up with a brief thank you call or email for listening and acting on our concerns!)
The governor also announced the entire state would reopen once the vaccination rate reaches 60% statewide and the color coded system will be retired. She believes this could happen by June 30th. I believe it could happen prior to that date. If you are fully vaccinated please go to the NM vaccine portal https://www.cvvaccine.nmhealth.org/ and log onto your profile to make sure your 2nd dose has been updated. It was brought to my attention Thursday morning on a call, many people are finding this hasn’t happened. I personally went to my profile, having been fully vaccinated since Jan 28th, but my 2nd dose was not registered, nor would it allow me to update. I had to contact them. So far it still hasn’t updated. If this is a glitch in their website system, they need to know and we want all of our doses to count toward the newly named goal of 60%. Also if you are a NM resident but went to another state to get vaccinated, please go to the portal and register the dates you were vaccinated so the numbers will also count.
An update was also announced to the mask policies following the CDC guidelines. Click here to watch a video and see full information about unmasking outdoors.
Again, we want to express sincere appreciation for these modifications! There seems to be a light at the end of the year long shut down for the people of New Mexico. Living through a world wide pandemic has been, hopefully a once in a lifetime learning experience for everyone. It is not over yet, but relaxed restrictions are less stressful for most.
I am proud of the conscientious people in Angel Fire’s zip code 87710. We have had only 89 positive cases of COVID (none recently) out of the 749 positive cases in Colfax County recorded since March 2020. Some may not agree, but I think this speaks volumes about how our residents have really stepped up, working together, to keep our village as safe as possible. We are looking forward to introducing safely our summer events, staying cautious by following Covid Safe Practices and welcoming both summer residents and visitors back to Angel Fire!
Sincerely,
Jo Mixon
Mayor Village of Angel Fire
