On November 19, 2021 we held a Community Town Hall meeting to share with the people of Angel Fire, the status of our fleet of fire apparatus. Chief Henson had presented a video to the Village Council prior to the Town Hall. I wanted him to give the same presentation to our home owners. He spoke specifically about two key vehicles that had failed what is known as “pump inspection” and could not be repaired. This immediately impacted firefighter safety, community protection, funding, and most importantly, it had the potential to modify our insurance safety office standard, causing home owners immediate issues.
Not having money in the Village budget to cover the very expensive cost of the number one priority, replacing the failed Pumper Tender, we started a grass roots campaign to raise the money. We had no comprehension, at the time, of the generosity of our amazing community or how quickly and loudly they would respond. Within a matter of weeks we raised enough money to pay 100% of the cost of the four-wheel drive Pumper Tender with community donations, over $340K ! This is an incredible feat and a testament to how close the bond is between our Fire Department and our community. We can’t say it enough, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Now that the Pumper Tender has arrived, the next step is firefighter orientation and training with the new unit. As soon as everyone is trained, they will load the it with equipment and have a formal “push in” ceremony on April 9, 2022 at 2:00 pm. The entire community will be invited to attend and for those who cannot attend, we will broadcast it live on Facebook.
Chief Henson, Angel Fire Fire/EMS Chief says, “Thank you for your support and trust in us. We exist to serve you, 24/7.” I am so very proud of our Fire and EMS Department. The men and women who make up these teams give 190% to this valley on a daily basis. They are literally saving lives every time they get in their trucks and ambulances! They are highly trained, skilled professionals whom we are blessed to have!
