The Village of Angel Fire has now arranged for trash to be picked up at the Halo Pines location seven days a week.
There has always been trash pick up Monday thru Friday and 1/2 day on Saturday. Yet recently, in less than 24 hours, the dumpsters are stuffed so full it looks as if they have not been picked up for weeks! (We have seen all the nice photos and read the comments on Facebook) We have decided that adding Sunday pick-up might help. The hope is that this will help eliminate people overflowing dumpsters on the weekends.
Trucks will now run 1/2 day on Sunday.
We ask, if you are a fulltime resident, or a part-time resident and you know it is a holiday weekend, with lots of guests in town – consider taking your trash on Friday, prior to the holiday or Monday or Tuesday, after the holiday. It does take a conscious community effort to keep our Village clean. Maybe some new residents do not know that we do not have a land-fill in Angel Fire. All trash brought into our dumpsters and transfer station must be taken to land-fills off of the mountain. It is time consuming, especially being short staffed. (This is not a complaint, it’s a fact. For some weird reason unknown to most of us, short staffing has become the norm since COVID.)
The Halo Pines location is strictly for Angel Fire residents and their guests. Businesses are not allowed, by Angel Fire Code, to take their trash to the Halo Pines location. Please stop. Business trash, unless you rent dumpsters for pick-up, must be taken to the transfer station. The Transfer Station hours will remain the same.
Even though we are adding this day, our staff remains the same. Please know the employees of the Solid Waste Department work extremely hard and truly do care about keeping the trash contained. We have spent time and effort fencing in the dumpsters, putting in lights for winter safety and closing all but one gate in the evenings to try to minimize trash blowing during wind events. Please help us…be a part of the solution, not a part of the problem. If all of us work together, hopefully, we can prevent distasteful trash pile-ups. And we have openings for CDL Drivers, if you’d like to apply!
One more thing, remember, if your Condo HOA rents dumpsters at your location and you would like to add another pick up day to your schedule, you must call the Village prior to the weekend to schedule that extra pick up.
Thank you,
Jo Mixon, Mayor of Angel Fire
PS – We are working behind the scene on a better solution to our ever growing slash issue. Plans are both short term and long term. This will be rolled out by April 1, 2023. Stay tuned!
