The New Mexico Department of Transportation District Four and its contractor Fisher Sand & Gravel is set to begin the road construction project on U.S. 64 on April 3, 2023. Active construction will take place Mondays through Saturdays. Be prepared for one lane traffic restrictions to be in place and wait times for pilot vehicles during the entire project.
The project is from mile post 272 to mile post 276 in the Taos Canyon. The work includes mill and overlay of the roadway, widening the shoulders, extending drainage structures, erosion control, traffic control, and signage and striping of the road.
This phase of construction on US-64 is expected to be completed by December 2023.
We were told semi trucks, large RV’s, and trailers will probably be re-routed. Taos Pines Rd will be closed except to residents of Taos Pines. Now is the time to alert your guests, clients, workforce, family, friends etc. etc. about this year long project.
Please prepared and be patient. This will be a dangerous work area. It only takes one impatient person running rouge to cause severe wrecks and fatalities. If you are too impatient to wait a while, please use another route!

What do you mean by wait a while? Is a 30 minute and counting wait normal!!
Toni Herrin says
A sign out to tell wait time is needed. I had an appointment in Abiqui that I missed and don’t know timewise how to reschedule. I waited for 45 minutes before someone came to tell me it would be much longer. We had a line of 20 cars.
