The most important question to ask yourself as you progress through the steps for learning to ski and snowboard is a simple one. Are you having fun? Pretty obvious, right? As with any sport there will be challenges. New skills require practice. Improvement most often takes effort and repetition before things start to become easy. But bottom-line, if you’re not having fun something is wrong. Why do we know this? Because skiing and snowboarding are out-of-this-world fun!
Our goal, really our whole focus, is to teach you this simple truth above all else. Hopefully this will inspire you with the lifelong passion for winter sports that we—the entire team of fantastic ski and snowboard instructors of Angel Fire Resort—all share. We feel so strongly about starting a learning partnership with you that our First Timer lessons are 100% guaranteed!
In order to steer you to a successful lesson plan, it’s important that we agree on three things. The first two are easy, your age and whether you want to be a skier or snowboarder. The third is a little trickier. What is your ability level? The Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) and American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI) each utilize a numerical designation for ability. These Level 1 though 9 Ability Charts are very accurate and detailed and provide great benchmarks to gauge steps for learning.
This season we partnered with Flaik, a GPS-based alpine guest tracking system. Children enrolled in lift-served lessons will be equipped with a lightweight armband locator, and real-time tracking is available for the ski school management to immediately ascertain the location of individual children. Images are captured multiple times per second, allowing detailed analysis of location and turn shape. This system ensures increased security and peace of mind for parents, instructors and management. In addition, parents and children can view their runs, vertical feet skied and other stats online.
Please take a moment to check these Ability Charts to determine where you are in general terms on the learning curve.
