Haunted House
Spooky fun permeated the atmosphere at the Rotary sponsored Interact Club’s Haunted House Fundraiser. Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 12 to 18. The Rotary Club of Angel Fire sponsors this club, providing support and guidance, but they are a self-governing and self-supported club. Interact Club is made up of about 25 young people from the Moreno Valley High School. Serving as officers this year are Ben Liddle-President, Brandon Dekema-Vice President, McKenna Hedgepeth-Treasurer, Sylvia Kaeck-Secretary and Stephen Hawkes- Sgt-at-Arms. Each year the Interact Club completes at least two community service projects. One of these projects must further international understanding and good will. Ben shared with me their international service project this year is a water project in Somalia. They also help out with the Rotary Club’s pancake breakfasts and other fundraiser’s throughout the year.
Last night Interact staged a Halloween Haunted House Fundraiser as part of the Rotary sponsored Trunk or Treat Community Event in Angel Fire. I was invited behind the scene to tour the haunted house as they were decorating it on Tuesday night. I have to tell you, I was extremely impressed! Without adult supervision, they were hard at work creating a safe, somewhat scary project. The young members exhibited individual responsibility, hard work, team effort and leadership skills. I commend all who were involved!
On Halloween, the doors opened to a line running the entire length of the building, with people waiting to enjoy the haunted atmosphere the Interact members had created! Gasps, screams, laughter and fun were experienced by both young and old. The project was a success. Good job guys! I must say, I am proud to be a part of the community of Angel Fire, New Mexico, where our young people model such personal integrity and creativity!
